PARK(ing) Day is now over...
and it’s time to start uploading the pictures!
The day was a huge success, and it was a lot of fun! I am so grateful for the cooperation and support of everyone who made it happen.

Just got home from picking up the sod, the plants, and the benches… We’re all set to go for the morning!

Got the benches!
My old college mentor has a couple great garden benches that he is letting us use! The receptionist at my office has a potted tree she is lending us, and a sod dealer in Coburg, All About Quality Sod, is excited to provide us the grass!
Two days to go, and it’s all coming together!
As long as you plug the meter, it’s OK by me.

Doug Maday at Public Works Traffic & Parking Services just gave us the official thumbs up.
Thanks Minneapolis!
As long as you plug the meter and don’t do anything illegal or dangerous you shouldn’t catch any flak from the police. In the hopefully rare case that you do,...

Got some leads on some grass...
I just had a very encouraging phone call with a local sod dealer who liked the idea of the park. Cross your fingers, and hopefully we’ll get someone who can donate the grass!
Kurt, another member of the Eugene Park(ing) Day group, said he has a lead on some benches, so we’ll see how that goes.
Things are coming together!

Just got the permit!
So we’re official tenants of parking spot 60-48 on September 18th, the spot pictured in our last post. We also reserved a spot across the street, just in case something comes up and we need a different spot. I also went by a...

Spoke to the city parking honcho today!
He said he’d seen groups do this in previous years, and his only concern was that we get permission from the local businesses before we set up our park. He said in years past permission was not received, and the business was upset about the loss of the parking spot and called the police!
He said we could either get a permit for $6 or else just show up and plug the meter all-day. We will go...
What things should we be sure to include in our...

Eugene's PARK(ing) Day park site on... →
Please note that the location isn’t finalized. Please check back when we have decided upon a firm location for our park!
This is the tumblr for Eugene's PARK(ing) Day park
PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day global event where artists, activists and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks. It will take place on 18 September 2009.
We hope to keep this tumblr updated with our progress on building the park, and hopefully lots of pictures on the Day!
